You bought the good toy. The one on the shelf with the little cardboard tag that said tough, that cost more than your lunch. He took it, wagged, gave it two chews, and went back to sleep on the sock he stole from the laundry pile in March. Almost every list of things dogs love is really a list of things people love giving dogs. The actual list — the one he'd write if he could — is mostly free, mostly boring to us, and a good chunk of it is stuff you interrupt every single day without knowing. Fifteen, counting down.
