Description
Cheap supermarket tea bags and expensive loose-leaf tea can come from the exact same plant — sometimes even the same harvest. So why can one cost many times more than the other?
In this documentary, we follow tea from the field to your cup and uncover how harvesting, withering, CTC processing, orthodox processing, oxidation, drying, grading, sorting and packaging create dramatically different products.
We also break down the difference between whole leaf, Broken Orange Pekoe, fannings and tea dust — and why particle size alone does not necessarily tell you the quality of the original tea.
The real difference between cheap and expensive tea often comes down to mechanization, production volume, processing methods, labor, sourcing, packaging and scarcity. Cheap tea isn’t necessarily fake or bad, and expensive tea isn’t automatically better for every drinker. They are often products optimized for completely different experiences. Pasted markdown
By the end, you’ll know what actually happens inside a tea factory, what may be inside your tea bag, why loose-leaf tea costs more, and what you’re really paying for when you buy tea.
This video is for educational and informational purposes. Product formulations can change, and recalls generally apply to specific products, production dates or lots rather than every product sold under a brand. Always check current labels and official food-safety notices.
