Description

Before modern drag and Pride, there was William Dorsey Swann. Born into slavery, he claimed his freedom, threw underground silk-dress balls in 1880s Washington, D.C., and boldly called himself the world’s very first "Queen of Drag." When police raided his sanctuary, he stood his ground; turning style into an enduring legacy of resistance. #History #Shorts #DragQueen #QueerHistory #BlackHistory #BallroomCulture #HistoryFacts #LGBTQHistory
