Fourteen days at sea is long enough that you stop being a tourist and start being a resident — and long enough to see exactly how people behave when they think the ordinary rules have been suspended. After nearly 30 years of cruising, these are the 10 behaviours that still shocked me: the towels holding empty loungers at dawn, the pier runners who stroll back late and wave, the way some people speak to the crew, buffet manners, the gangway scrum, the drinks package treated as a challenge, cabins left like a jumble sale — and the three that made me angriest, every one aimed at people our age: the lifts, the mobility scooters, and a muster drill treated as a joke. It isn't a scolding — the overwhelming majority of cruisers are lovely — but these few are worth talking about. A gentle, honest note: this is one experienced cruiser's honest take after many years at sea — every ship and sailing is different, and the overwhelming majority of cruisers are kind and decent people. Ship policies (lounger/towel rules, all-aboard times, muster drills) vary by line, so always follow your ship's daily programme and crew. This channel is general travel information.
