Description

During a 1993 Chicago Bulls game, Don Calhoun was selected from the crowd to attempt a $1 million full-court shot. Nineteen fans had already tried and missed before him. Don stepped up and somehow made the shot, sending the arena into chaos. Even Michael Jordan ran over to celebrate with him. But when Don returned five days later to claim his prize, the insurance company refused to pay. They discovered that Don had played college basketball three years earlier, which technically violated the contest’s eligibility rules. The decision sparked public backlash, and Michael Jordan and the Bulls pushed management to make sure Don received compensation. Instead of the advertised $1 million, he ultimately received $50,000 per year for 20 years.
