Description
Mario has had a ridiculous number of releases on various systems, but how much would it cost to buy every physical Mario game ever released? I'm talking everything from the Atari all the way up to the Nintendo Switch 2 and even computer releases, arcade cabinets (for what I could find), and more. I went system by system to try and get the most accurate numbers I could to find the total number.
Ground Rules
* This list counts **physical games from the Mario franchise, direct Mario spinoffs, and crossovers where Mario is a headline property**. It does not include every game Mario happens to appear in.
* **Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario are treated as separate franchises.** The original Donkey Kong games are excluded despite Mario’s major role in them.
* **Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3** and **Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island** are included because they were officially released as numbered entries in the Mario series.
* Crossovers such as **Mario & Sonic** and **Itadaki Street** qualify. Guest appearances in games such as **Super Smash Bros., NBA Street, and SSX** do not.
* A physical release on a **different platform counts as a separate release**. Regional variants, alternate packaging, Player’s Choice versions, etc. do not.
* **Code-in-box releases are excluded** because the game itself is not physically stored on the included media. **e-Reader cards count** because the game data is physically stored on the cards.
* Most non-game utility software is excluded, with a small number of clearly explained exceptions.
* When a North American version exists, that is the version used for pricing. For releases that never came to North America, the original-region version is used.
* Prices were researched as of **August 18, 2026**, primarily using PriceCharting. Rare items without reliable PriceCharting data were researched using documented sales, auctions, market values, or dealer listings when necessary.
* The main game list contains **262 qualifying physical releases**.
* **Game & Watch units, Nelsonic watches, Mario Kart Live hardware, arcade cabinets, pinball machines, medal machines, and similar dedicated hardware do not count toward the 262 games.** They are tracked separately and added to the larger collection cost.
* If I could not find a reliable price for an item, I left it unpriced rather than estimating or inventing a value.
