Michael Arooth, the tail gunner from B-17 "Tondelayo" of the 379th Bomb Group, who would go on to become the highest-scoring B-17 gunner of the war. This video follows the start of his tour, and in particular, the July 30th, 1943, raid to Kassel, Germany, where he was critically wounded in action. Here, he took a 20 mm cannon shell to the hand and leg but was still able to shoot down four German attackers in the mission.
