Description

Human History is Disturbing the more I learn. In this video we dive into the wreck of the Batavia, the Dutch East India Company ship that ran aground off the coast of Australia in 1629. Around 300 people survived the wreck and made it to a cluster of tiny islands. What happened next was one of the most disturbing stories in maritime history. Over the next three months, around 120 of the survivors were murdered by other survivors of the same shipwreck, organised by one of their own officers. Modern archaeology has uncovered mass graves, the wreck itself, and the chilling evidence of what these people did to each other. This Dark and Disturbing discovery sheds light on the Batavia and the people who never made it home.
