Description

In 1936, the last Tasmanian tiger died alone in a Hobart zoo, and science closed the file for good. Nearly ninety years later, a wildlife biologist opened a jar holding a 110-year-old thylacine head preserved in ethanol — and pulled something out of it that nobody thought was still readable. This is the story of how "extinct" stopped being a final word: a genome rebuilt to 99.9%, over 300 genetic edits into a single cell, embryos grown in an artificial womb, and one scientist who now says a living Tasmanian tiger is a matter of when, not if.
