After being struck, Shinichi is given a drug by Gin, later identified as APTX 4869, intended to kill him. However, the poison has an unexpected rare side effect, transforming Shinichi from a grown adult into a child instead of killing him. After the incident, Shinichi returns home and assumes the name Conan Edogawa, adopting it under pressure from his childhood friend Ran.
