Description

Want to go further than a video? My books are my way of passing on what thirty-eight years of buying and pricing taught me, and you can get them here: https://mark-side-up.netlify.app A glass jar of tangled old jewelry, a handwritten price tag, and no way to see what is really inside. That is how thrift shops sell mystery jars, and in this video I open one and check every piece the way I have for thirty-eight years. I am Roy Danforth, and I have been buying and pricing estate sales, flea markets and antique mall booths across the Ohio Valley and the Midwest for a very long time. I will be honest with you from the start: most jars like this are mostly costume jewelry worth a few dollars, and I am not going to pretend every one hides a fortune. But once in a while a real piece of gold, a sterling silver chain or a signed brooch ends up buried in the tangle, because whoever filled the jar never turned anything over. So I go through it piece by piece. I check the back for a signature or a hallmark, look at the clasp and the construction, test the metal, look at how the stones are set, and tell you what is gold, what is silver and what is costume. You will see exactly how I sort a pile like this in a few minutes, and the same checks work on the jewelry in your own box or the next jar you spot on a thrift shop shelf. Do not pay a collector's price for something you have not checked, and do not walk past a mystery jar without at least picking it up. If you enjoy this kind of video, consider subscribing, because I go through a new box, jar or drawer every week. And stay to the end, because the last piece out of the jar is the one that made me stop and look twice.
