Description

June 6th, 1944. At the edge of a 100-foot sheer cliff on the coast of Normandy, German defenders looked down at something they were assured was impossible. The American Rangers were climbing up. The 2nd Ranger Battalion was given a seemingly impossible mission on D-Day: scale the vertical cliffs of Pointe du Hoc under heavy fire and destroy a battery of six 155mm guns threatening both Omaha and Utah beaches. But when the surviving Rangers reached the top, the concrete gun pits were empty. What happened next came down to two sergeants, a set of wheel tracks in the dirt, and a handful of thermite grenades. This is the true story of Leonard Lomell, Jack Kuhn, and the men who saved the invasion when the meticulous D-Day plan completely fell apart. If your father or grandfather was a Ranger — at Pointe du Hoc, at Omaha Beach, in Italy, or in the Pacific — honor them by leaving their name and battalion in the comments below.
