Here is a breakdown of the best defense tactics for pilots: Space: Staying completely outside of a threat's envelope is always your greatest defense. MAWS (Missile Approach Warning System): This system provides an audible tone to increase your situational awareness and prompt you to take action. IRCM (Flares): Flares disrupt a missile's guidance and should only be launched after a missile is visually confirmed to be fired. Firing flares early will not break a system's initial lock on your aircraft. Jinking: This is a last-ditch series of deliberate directional changes to try and outmaneuver an incoming missile.
