Description
3 WORST and 4 BEST Firewood Species In North America!
Not every log that burns is worth hauling home. Some firewood costs you more work than heat, and some quietly carries a whole house through the coldest nights of January.
In this video, I walk you through three firewood species I would avoid and four the old-timers have trusted for generations. You will hear what each one does well, where it falls short, how long it needs to season, and what it is really like to split and stack.
The three to avoid:
Basswood: light, fast, and gone before your coffee gets cold
Willow: a bucket of water pretending to be firewood
Cottonwood: the big-log trap that fools beginners every winter
The four worth every swing of the maul:
Sugar Maple: the balanced, back-friendly all-rounder
Hickory: serious January heat with a barbecue bonus
White Oak: the king of overnight burns, if you have the patience
Black Locust: the closest thing firewood has to cheating
Whether you heat your home with wood, run a stove at the cabin, or you are just getting started with your first woodpile, this list will save you time, work, and a few cold mornings.
Now I want to hear from you. What is the best firewood where you live? And which wood do you refuse to burn, no matter how desperate things get? Tell me in the comments.
Stay warm,
Zeb Combs
