In this documentary, we examine the question by going back to Jesus’ own words and the earliest Christian sources. We look at the strongest passages Christians use to support the divinity of Jesus—including John 1:1, John 8:58, John 10:30, and John 20:28—and compare them with passages where Jesus distinguishes himself from God, prays to God, calls the Father his God, and speaks of the Father as greater than himself. We also explore the Trinity, the Incarnation, the historical development of Christian beliefs, the Council of Nicaea, and the Jewish understanding of monotheism. Rather than selecting only the verses that support one side, this investigation examines both arguments and asks a simple question: Did Jesus himself teach that he was God—or did later Christian theology develop to explain how Jesus should be understood? Finally, we look at Jesus within the Abrahamic tradition and explore the Islamic perspective on who Jesus truly was.
