I'm 74 and Live Alone in the Mountains (And I've Never Been Happier)

Earl Sizemore is 74 years old, lives alone on Clinch Mountain in Hancock County, Tennessee, and has no intention of moving anywhere. In this video, Earl draws on three generations of Appalachian mountain living to share a complete, practical system for aging in place safely and independently — without monthly fees, medical alert buttons, or expensive renovations. He covers the single most important habit for anyone living alone: a daily check-in call with a trusted person, a clear emergency plan, and a medical information sheet taped to the refrigerator door. He walks through fall prevention, floor safety, how to get yourself up off the ground if you go down, keeping the house warm without risking carbon monoxide poisoning, chimney cleaning, and staying physically strong enough to keep your home. He also shares what he calls his father's step — the one weekly practice his daddy never skipped, and the one that modern researchers have only recently caught up to. Most of what Earl describes costs nothing, or just a few dollars at the hardware store. #aging #homesteading #selfsufficiency #appalachia #seniorsafety #ruralliving #offgrid #traditionalskills #fallprevention #countrylife
