Description
Mary Rand rose from a council house in Wells, Somerset, to become one of Britain’s greatest Olympic athletes.
After the heartbreak of Rome 1960, she returned at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and produced a world-record long jump of 6.76 metres. She became the first British woman to win Olympic athletics gold, then added silver in the pentathlon and bronze in the 4×100-metre relay.
But her story was about more than medals.
Mary balanced motherhood, full-time work, strict amateur rules, media pressure, and relentless training. Later, an Achilles injury denied her the chance to defend her Olympic title in 1968 and ended her career at only 28.
This documentary explores her rise, failure, redemption, injury, later life, death, and the legacy Britain should never forget.
