Description

I trace how Caribbean migration records can help me uncover when and where my ancestors arrived in the United States. If my family carries surnames such as Campbell, McKenzie, Grant, Alleyne, Brathwaite, Forde, Saint Hill, or Rolle—or if family tradition says an ancestor came from the islands—I may find the answer in a ship’s manifest. I look at passenger lists that can reveal an ancestor’s name, age, island of origin, arrival date, and the person waiting for them in America. I also explore Caribbean families who were already standing on American soil more than sixty years before the 1870 census, opening a different path for researching Black family history. #CaribbeanGenealogy #BlackGenealogy #FamilyHistory #MigrationRecords #GenealogyResearch
