The Real Origins of Halloween, Explained by Cats 🎃

Gino comes home with the biggest candy haul on the street, eats every last piece, and falls asleep… straight into 2,000 years of Halloween history. 🎃 From Samhain bonfires on a misty hilltop to medieval soul cakes, Scottish guising, Snap-Apple Night, the very first (and very scary) turnip jack-o'-lanterns and 1950s trick-or-treating, Gino visits every Halloween that ever was, and tries to find a snack in each one. Along the way, Tito and Mia light the Samhain bonfire, Leone tries four disguises for extra soul cakes, the Colonel and Isabella judge Gino's magic trick, Milly's apple peel predicts her true love, and Luna and Nero confuse an entire neighborhood. 🍂 Halloween facts in this video: • Samhain is still the Irish word for November • "Halloween" comes from All Hallows' Eve • "Guising" is short for disguising • The first jack-o'-lanterns were carved from turnips • "Trick or treat" first appeared in print in 1927 • Candy corn was once sold as "Chicken Feed" Chapters: 0:00 The origins of Halloween 0:45 Samhain and early traditions 2:21 Evolution to All Hallow's Eve 3:27 Folklore and seasonal games 5:34 Jack-o'-lanterns and migration 7:18 Modern trick-or-treating Which Halloween would you visit?
