Description
Salmon packaging often emphasizes words such as “wild,” “natural” and “Alaskan,” but sourcing and traceability can differ significantly between products. We investigated seven popular options—and found only two that clearly stood out.

The *Consumer Exposed Shopping Guide 2026* helps you compare popular products, understand confusing labels and find better alternatives without spending hours researching every claim.
In this investigation, we examine supermarket private-label salmon alongside Good & Gather, Great Value, Echo Falls, Trader Joe’s, Kirkland Signature and Wild Alaskan Company. We compare species identification, farmed versus wild sourcing, country-of-origin information, certifications and supply-chain transparency.
We also reveal two companies that stood out for more specific sourcing and external verification: Wild Planet and Vital Choice.
Watch until the end to learn what “Atlantic salmon” means, which species names to look for and how to evaluate sourcing claims before placing another package in your cart.
This video is for general education and commentary only, not medical, dietary or food-safety advice. We did not independently DNA-test these products. Findings discussed in the video come from published research, public documentation and the criteria explained in our review. Sourcing can change, so verify current packaging and certifications.
