Super El Niño Winter? 6 Things I Still Do Before the Ice (74, Alone)

They say a super El Niño means a mild winter. Mild isn't safe. When ice brings a line down, I stay back at the window. I'm 74, alone, and my husband Walt worked the lines. Here are six things I still do before the ice, each with the thing I never do: the downed line I only look at from the window, the outage I report myself, the limb on the wire, the tree over my car and the iced carport, the three weather service words on my fridge, and the call almost nobody makes when your neighbor's lights come back on and yours don't. **Chapters** 0:00 Mild isn't safe 0:29 #1 The line I watch from the window 1:35 #2 Report the outage yourself 1:55 The co-op outage text 2:39 #3 The limb on the wire 3:40 What the weather service says about this winter 4:05 November 1947 on the Iron Range 4:31 #4 The tree and the iced carport 5:32 #5 Watch, advisory, warning 6:33 #6 When the neighbor's lights come back 7:06 Call again when yours stays dark 7:37 The card on my fridge **Tell me in the comments:** Has an ice storm ever kept your lights off for days?
