Description

👉 Download my E-Book: http://titusfreeman.com Nobody plants in October anymore. My grandfather Eli did all his best work then. In 1932, Eli Freeman kept eight people fed off a quarter acre of creek bottom here in Eastern Kentucky. His secret was what he put in the ground after the first frost. While the rest of the hollow called the garden done, he was planting garlic, sowing rye, splitting rhubarb, and tucking in a bed of old potato onions that nearly vanished from every seed catalog in America. In this video I count down the 10 October plantings from Eli’s leather journal. Most of them, the seed companies would rather you forgot, because there’s no money in a thing you only ever buy once. There’s still time to get one in the ground before Halloween. Tell me in the comments: did your grandparents plant in the fall? What did your people keep that nobody keeps anymore? The one with the most comments is the one I build next. Next time: the root cellar Eli dug into this hillside, and the year the refrigerator companies made sure it left the farm. Keep the old ways. — Titus #homesteading #fallgarden #selfreliance
