In 1995, astronomers aimed Hubble at what looked like absolute emptiness and discovered 3,000 galaxies lurking in the void. For three decades, we believed we had exhausted that darkness, mapped every photon it would surrender. Then James Webb returned with infrared eyes, stared for nearly 100 hours at the same legendary patch, and found over 2,500 sources Hubble never knew existed - including objects so red, so ancient, and so strange that they rewrite our understanding of what hides in the cosmic deep.
In this breathtaking space documentary, we explore the MIRI Deep Imaging Survey - and what happens when humanity refuses to accept that darkness means emptiness.
In this visual documentary, we go deep:
→ The 100-hour exposure that became Webb's longest single-filter extragalactic stare into the abyss
→ Over 100 extremely red galaxies completely invisible to Hubble's visible light
→ Dusty starbursts and ancient giants that stopped forming stars billions of years ago
→ Mysterious little red dots harboring supermassive black holes from the dawn of cosmic time
→ MIRI dropouts - phantom objects existing only beyond 5 micrometers, vanishing at every other wavelength
Darkness is never absence. It is only the boundary of the eye that looks.
