Description

Dark Matter Explained Like You Are 5 Years Old What is dark matter, and how do we know something we can't even see makes up most of the universe? This video breaks it down one idea at a time, no jargon and no hand-waving. Dark matter is the name for a huge amount of invisible mass that we detect only through gravity. We can't photograph it, but we can measure its pull, and that pull is everywhere. You'll learn why galaxies would tear themselves apart without it. The outer stars in a spinning galaxy move far too fast for the visible mass alone to hold them in place, so something unseen has to be supplying the extra gravity. We walk through how astronomers weigh objects in space using orbital speed, why telescopes physically cannot see matter that doesn't touch light, and how the bending of light around galaxy clusters gives a second, completely independent confirmation of the same missing mass. We also clear up the biggest points of confusion. Dark matter is not dark energy. One pulls things together, the other pushes the universe apart. Dark matter is not antimatter, and it isn't just black holes or dim ordinary stuff we haven't spotted yet, because those were already counted and the gap survives. By the end you'll understand what's actually settled, that dark matter is real and works through gravity, and what's still an open question, which is what it's actually made of. Roughly five times more dark matter exists than all visible matter combined. Every star, planet, and glowing cloud of gas is the minority. This is the explanation you should have gotten the first time anyone mentioned dark matter. Topics covered: what dark matter is, evidence for dark matter, galaxy rotation curves, gravitational lensing, dark matter vs dark energy, dark matter vs antimatter, why we can't see dark matter, how scientists weigh galaxies, and what dark matter might be made of. #DarkMatter #Astronomy #Space #Physics #Universe #Cosmology #Galaxies #DarkEnergy #Science #SpaceExplained #Astrophysics #GravitationalLensing dark matter, what is dark matter, dark matter explained, dark matter for beginners, evidence for dark matter, how do we know dark matter exists, dark matter vs dark energy, dark matter vs antimatter, galaxy rotation curves, gravitational lensing, invisible mass, missing mass universe, why galaxies dont fly apart, how scientists weigh galaxies, orbital speed galaxies, dark matter gravity, cant see dark matter, dark matter particle, what is dark matter made of, dark matter simplified, astronomy explained, astrophysics for beginners, cosmology explained, universe explained, space explained, how the universe works, invisible universe, dark matter documentary, dark matter simple explanation, understanding dark matter, physics explained, space science, what holds galaxies together, unseen mass universe, dark matter proof
