Description
Since 2024, Burkina Faso's been trying out a bold economic experiment: taxing citizens 1% of their salaries - and putting the collected funds into a national development and anti-terr*rism fund. Justifying the measure, the country's finance minister said that minus 1% makes very little difference to individual households - whereas the combined contribution of the population will make all the difference to the nation. Moreover, he argues, it will give citizens a sense of participating in the country's transformation. What do you think of the tax? Should other governments follow suit?
