America's National Bird Takes First Flight | Alaska: A Year In The Wild | Season 1 Episode 4

Alaska: A Year in the Wild is a breathtaking nature documentary series that follows the wildlife of America's last frontier through all four seasons. Released in 2017, this four-part British production captures the raw beauty and brutal reality of life in one of the harshest environments on Earth. In winter, temperatures drop to minus 60 and the ocean itself freezes over. Foxes and hares change their coats to blend into the snow, while red squirrels fight to protect their food caches. On the treeless plains, ancient musk ox search for food beneath the ice. As the frozen landscape thaws, spring arrives quickly and brings millions of migrating birds back to Alaska. The end of winter also triggers one of the greatest feeding frenzies on the planet in the Gulf of Alaska. Large ocean predators hunt the millions of fish that gather there. Summer follows with a short but vital window of growth and abundance. Every animal must make the most of it before the cold returns. In autumn, young animals prepare for their first winter without their parents. Humpback whales return to Alaska's rich feeding grounds, and salmon travel back to the rivers where they were born to spawn. Along the way they must get past hungry brown bears building up fat before hibernation. Together, these stories show a year of birth, survival, and loss in the wild. If you love wildlife documentaries, Alaska nature, bears, whales, and untamed wilderness, this series is a must-watch.
