Description

Get my E-Book featuring old-fashioned recipes and traditional Money-Saving kitchen tricks at https://naomicooking.com/ I’ve learned that there is no single “Native American cuisine.” Different Native nations developed their own foods around the landscapes, crops, animals, and traditions available to them, and that variety is what makes these recipes so interesting. In this video, I’m sharing 15 different Native and Indigenous recipes, from Chickasaw grape dumplings and Cherokee bean bread to Osage pounded meat, persimmon cakes, Hidatsa corn balls, Pueblo oven bread, and a roasted pumpkin filled with venison and vegetables. Some of these recipes are surprisingly simple, but the techniques completely change the ingredients. Corn can become wrapped bread, porridge, dumplings, or hand-held food, while meat can become a clear soup, a pounded mixture, or a rich filling. I also explain the small details that matter, what can go wrong, how to recognize the right texture, and how I would adapt certain preparations safely in a modern home kitchen. If you enjoy practical old recipes that make simple ingredients work harder, subscribe and I’ll keep bringing you more of them. I’ve also put many of my old recipes, kitchen tricks, and money-saving ideas into my cookbook, available through my website. Which of these 15 recipes would you actually put on your table first? And tell me in the comments what you want me to make or explore in the next video.
