Description

North Sentinel Island is one of the most isolated places on Earth. Located in the Indian Ocean, it is home to the Sentinelese, an Indigenous people who have resisted contact with the outside world for generations. The island is legally off-limits to visitors, both to protect the Sentinelese from outside diseases and to preserve their right to live without unwanted interference. In 2018, American missionary John Allen Chau illegally traveled to North Sentinel Island in an attempt to introduce Christianity to the tribe. Despite warnings and an earlier encounter in which an arrow struck his Bible, Chau returned to the island and was killed. In this video, we explore the history of North Sentinel Island, what we know about the Sentinelese, why they reject outside contact, and the events that led to Chau's death. #NorthSentinelIsland #Sentinelese #History #Geography #Forevergreen
