Description
Open your oven and look closely.
The dark grease on the walls. The baked-on splatters on the glass. The sticky corners around the door. The racks that never seem completely clean no matter how hard you scrub.
Most people wait until the oven looks terrible — then reach for the strongest cleaner they can find.
But that usually makes the job feel harder than it needs to be.
The real problem is BAKED-ON GREASE and FOOD RESIDUE that has been heated again and again until it bonds to the surface. Scrubbing it dry only wastes energy.
The better way is to soften it first.
Today, I’ll show you the simple Japanese way I use to clean an oven properly — with patience, the right order, and much less aggressive scrubbing.
In this video:
• Why baked-on oven grease becomes so difficult to remove
• The simple first step that makes the entire job easier
• How to soften stubborn residue before you start scrubbing
• Why DWELL TIME matters more than scrubbing harder
• The right way to clean oven racks separately
• How to tackle greasy oven glass without scratching it
• The forgotten edges, corners, and door seals most people miss
• Why a soft scraper can be more useful than an abrasive sponge
• How to remove loosened grease without spreading it everywhere
• The final rinse-and-wipe step that prevents cleaner residue
• Why drying the oven properly matters before you use it again
• What you should NEVER mix when cleaning an oven
• The small habit that stops heavy grease from building up again
The secret is not a stronger cleaner.
It is giving the grease time to soften before you try to remove it.
When residue is softened first, you need much less pressure, fewer harsh products, and far less scrubbing.
That is the Japanese approach I prefer:
clean early, work gently, and do not let small messes become big ones.
You do not need to deep-clean your oven every week.
But wiping fresh splatters before they bake on again can save you a much harder cleaning job later.
One important reminder:
Never mix oven cleaner with bleach, ammonia, vinegar, or other household cleaning chemicals. Follow the instructions for your specific oven, especially if it has catalytic panels, special coatings, or a self-cleaning function.
A clean oven should not require hours of angry scrubbing.
Just the right method, a little patience, and a routine you can actually repeat.
If you try this method, tell me in the comments: what is the hardest part of your oven to clean — the glass, racks, walls, or the bottom?
I read your comments.
