We Bought a Flood Damaged Honda Accord for Under $300… Can It Be Saved

This older Honda Accord was caught in a devastating flood that swept the car away and left it overturned. With only basic liability insurance, the owner had no coverage for the damage to his own vehicle. Instead of giving up, he decided to try restoring it. We started by removing the thick mud from the exterior and interior before pulling the engine for a closer inspection. Floodwater had entered the engine, but the contaminated fluids were drained quickly and the intake system was dried. Surprisingly, the cylinder liners showed no obvious rust or corrosion, offering hope that the engine could be cleaned, inspected, and rebuilt instead of replaced entirely. We also inspected the valve cover area, cleaned the engine bay, replaced the valve cover gasket, and continued cleaning the interior.
