Description

The Terracotta Army and the sealed tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China: 8,000 clay soldiers found by farmers in 1974, and a 2,200-year-old tomb that China still won't open. A cinematic Hindi documentary on ancient China, Episode 1 of Prachin Duniya Ke Rahasya. In March 1974, seven farmers digging a well near Xi'an hit a clay face with open eyes. Under the field stood the Terracotta Army: more than 8,000 life-size terracotta warriors, horses and chariots, with real bronze weapons, built to guard the tomb of Qin Shi Huang. But the army was found smashed and burned, and most of its weapons were gone. This history documentary opens seven mysteries of the Qin dynasty. Who broke the army? Was the emperor the king's son or the son of the merchant Lu Buwei? How were 8,000 different faces made, and why does their paint peel away within minutes of being uncovered? Did Greek sculptors help, as Lukas Nickel suggested in 2016? Then the elixir of life, the mercury pills, and Xu Fu's 60 ships that sailed into the fog and never came back. Zhao Gao's forged will and "a deer called a horse". And the tomb itself: a 76-metre mound that Sima Qian said holds rivers of mercury and crossbow traps, where soil tests found mercury about seven times higher than normal in one area. The visuals are AI-generated dramatised reconstructions. Much of the story comes from Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian, written about a century later, and the video says clearly where historians disagree. Sources are listed below. Questions this video answers: - Who found the Terracotta Army, and what was under the well? - Who smashed and burned the Terracotta Warriors? - Was Qin Shi Huang the king's son or the merchant's? - Why does the Terracotta Army's paint disappear in four minutes? - Did Greek artists help make the Terracotta Army? - Did Xu Fu reach Japan with 60 ships? - What does "calling a deer a horse" mean? - Why won't China open Qin Shi Huang's tomb?
