Description
There is a rocket standing on Mars that can never leave. Not because it's broken — because of a window that opens once every 26 months, and a distance of 225 million kilometres.
Getting to Mars is difficult. Coming back is something else entirely.
In this calm space documentary, we look at the real reasons why returning from Mars is so hard: the fuel you cannot carry, the propellant you have to manufacture on another planet, the dust storms that killed a 15-year mission, the radiation that has no shield, and the silence of a place where no rescue can ever arrive in time.
A slow, quiet look at the most one-way journey in the solar system.
