France and Britain remain outside the conflict, leaving Germany victorious without the First World War as we know it. 1917–1921 — The Russian Revolution and the collapse of Russian power transform Eastern Europe. Germany becomes increasingly involved in containing Bolshevik expansion while supporting a new political order in Central and Eastern Europe. 1922–1923 — The collapse of the Austrian Federation leads to a German-Austrian union. Germany defeats France and Italy and emerges as the dominant power of Central Europe. 1920s–1930s — Germany develops as a major imperial power without Hitler or the Third Reich. Its relations with Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, France and Italy shape a very different European balance of power. 1940–1946 — A second major European war eventually turns against Germany. After the fall of Berlin, the Soviet Union establishes communist Prussia as a separate German state instead of dividing Germany into East and West. Germany survives as a single state, still including Austria. 1946–1970s — Postwar Germany remains politically authoritarian at first and gradually liberalizes. It becomes a neutral buffer between East and West — effectively part of the Iron Curtain, but not part of either military bloc. Germany initially refuses to align itself with its former enemies, while the increasingly tense relationship with communist Prussia later makes NATO membership even more difficult. 1950s–1980s — Prussia grows into the largest, strongest and most independent ally of the Soviet Union in Europe. Germany meanwhile rebuilds its economy, develops closer economic ties with Western Europe and eventually joins the European Community while remaining militarily neutral. 1985–1991 — The reunification of the Rhineland with Germany increases German economic and strategic power. In 1987, tensions with Prussia escalate into a major war. The Soviet Union eventually intervenes to save Prussia, while NATO begins supporting Germany. As the Eastern Bloc collapses, the Soviet Union withdraws from the conflict. Germany finally joins NATO in 1991, and NATO intervenes directly. Berlin falls and Prussia capitulates. 1991–1994 — Prussia is initially maintained as a German-dependent state before being gradually integrated into Germany. A separate settlement also creates the Free Territory of Gdańsk, giving landlocked Poland guaranteed access to the Baltic while leaving most of the surrounding territory under German sovereignty. 1990s–2026 — Germany remains a single state rather than becoming divided into East and West. Frankfurt am Main remains the capital: after Berlin was destroyed and placed under communist Prussian control, Frankfurt became the seat of the German government and eventually remained the permanent capital even after Berlin returned to Germany. Austria also remains part of Germany; even an Allied-demanded independence referendum after the Second World War fails to separate it, and decades of political integration make Austrian independence increasingly distant. By 2026, Germany is a unified European power stretching from the North Sea to the Alps — but its borders, political system and place in Europe are the result of a century of wars, revolutions, neutrality and rivalry with a communist Prussia that ultimately became part of Germany itself. An alternate-history timeline exploring how different German decisions could have reshaped Europe. 🎥This Video: 🧱 3450 Frames 🛠️ 25 working days ❗All maps and graphics are created by me.
