10 Fake Milk Brands You're Probably Buying Every Week In Australia

10 Fake Milk Brands You're Probably Buying Every Week in Australia That carton of “fresh” milk in your fridge might not be telling you the whole story. In July 2026, Australia's consumer watchdog announced that Lactalis Australia had paid $59,400 in penalties over allegedly misleading “fresh” milk claims involving two products containing reconstituted milk ingredients. But the bigger story goes beyond those two cartons. From “permeate free” and “full cream” to “high protein,” “A2,” and “Australian owned,” familiar milk labels can influence what you buy — and how much you pay. In this investigation, I break down 10 milk labels and pricing tactics Australian shoppers should understand before their next supermarket trip. We investigate: ✅ Why the ACCC challenged two products labelled “fresh” ✅ What “permeate free” really means ✅ Why “full cream” doesn't necessarily mean milk straight from the cow ✅ How premium milk can cost more without offering much nutritional difference ✅ Whether high-protein and A2 milk justify their prices ✅ Why Australian branding doesn't always mean Australian ownership ✅ The safety concerns surrounding raw milk ✅ How Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and branded milk compare ✅ Why rising dairy costs could affect supermarket milk prices By the end, you'll know what to buy instead, how to compare milk prices per litre, and how to read labels without falling for unnecessary marketing. This investigation does not establish that entire milk brands are fake. The ACCC action concerned two specific products, and the regulator said most fresh milk labelling it reviewed was accurate. 📘 THE SMARTER SHOPPER'S GUIDE — VERSION 2 Want to stop overpaying for everyday groceries?
