Description

📕 Stay Found, my field guide for anyone who heads outdoors: what to carry, what to leave on the kitchen table, and what to do in the first hour if somebody doesn't come back → https://stayfoundbook.com Nine real Yellowstone cases, told by a retired search and rescue ranger. Hiking boots sticking out of a grizzly's burial cache. A roll of film with no bear on it. A life vest that washed up zipped and empty, with a first name written inside. A young man's last page in the summit register on the highest point in the park. I'm Cliff Hollis. Thirty-two seasons as a backcountry ranger in the mountain West, the last fifteen running search and rescue. Yellowstone was not my park, and I never met anyone in this video. These nine run from the ones who were found to the ones who never were. THE FOUND 9. LANCE CROSBY, Elephant Back Mountain, 2015. A search ranger found him the next day, just after noon. STILL OPEN: an old electronics vacuum tube on top of the cache. The review board called it unexplained. 8. TRUMAN EVERTS, 1870. Found alive after 37 days, more than 50 miles from where he was lost. STILL OPEN: the sources put him at 50 pounds, or 90. 7. IL HUN RO, Abyss Pool, 2022. The pool gave back one shoe, one foot, and two loose soles pulled out the week before. STILL OPEN: "The circumstances surrounding the death of Ro remain unknown." 6. WILLIAM TESINSKY, Otter Creek, 1986. Found half a mile from the road, 15 feet from his camera and tripod. STILL OPEN: the film showed no bear. Two frames of bison. 5. JOHN WALLACE, Mary Mountain Trail, 2011. DNA tied the scene to the bear that killed Brian Matayoshi earlier that summer. STILL OPEN: at least four bears on that ground. "We do not know why Mr. Wallace was attacked." THE NEVER FOUND 4. LEROY PIPER, Fountain Hotel, 1900. Dinner, a cigar, a door. A month of cavalry found nothing, not even his two diamond rings. 3. DAN CAMPBELL and his dog Freckles, Hellroaring Creek, 1991. Fourteen antler hunters in that country, two shots heard, cartridges never tested. 2. KIM CRUMBO, Shoshone Lake, 2021. His half-brother Mark O'Neill was found. Kim's red vest came back zipped and empty. 1. AUSTIN KING, Eagle Peak, 2024. Eleven days, more than a hundred searchers, over 3,200 miles. His camp was missing exactly two things. Every document behind these cases is listed in the pinned comment, so you can check my work. Stay found, folks. #Yellowstone #ParkRanger #SearchAndRescue
