Description

Everyone knows Hatshepsut. Almost no one knows who came first. Sobekneferu ruled Egypt as pharaoh around 1806 BCE — over 200 years before Hatshepsut — as the 12th Dynasty collapsed with no male heir left to inherit the throne. Her statues show her wearing both queen's dress and king's crown at once. Her reign lasted roughly four years before later rulers tried to erase her from history, leaving only scattered fragments behind. #EgyptianHistory #AncientEgypt #Sobekneferu #Hatshepsut #FemalePharaoh #WomensHistory #Archaeology #History #AncientHistory #Egypt #Civilizations #Documentary #historydocumentary Sources: Louvre and Cairo Museum collections, 12th Dynasty Egypt excavation records, Sobekneferu statue fragments and seal inscriptions
