Someone in town has been writing to the Pale for eleven years. When Jonah follows the carrier's trail up the burner's track to the ruins of the old manor, he finds the werewolves the Pale keep bound by glowing collars, and one of them only wants to go home. Home is a village hidden in the mountains, one the Pale have never found.
