“You Don’t Work Here,” the CEO Said to the Mechanic—Then She Discovered Who He Really Was When CEO Victoria Hayes finds her luxury car broken down outside her Dallas headquarters, a quiet single dad named Daniel Brooks steps forward to help. But Victoria immediately stops him. “You don’t work here.” Daniel calmly replies, “I know.” Despite her doubts, Daniel diagnoses a dangerous fuel-system problem that could have caused a serious accident. He repairs the vehicle and refuses payment, never revealing the extraordinary experience hidden behind his simple mechanic's uniform. The next morning, Victoria discovers the truth: Daniel isn't just an ordinary mechanic. Years earlier, he had developed an innovative automotive safety system that attracted attention from major American automobile manufacturers. He walked away from the industry to raise his daughter. Now Victoria wants him to join her company—but Daniel has one condition: his daughter must always come first.
