Could bamboo really grow straight through something resembling a human body? 🎋 According to historical accounts, bamboo was reportedly used as a brutal form of torture in ancient China. To test whether bamboo could actually push through a human-like obstacle, two researchers created a synthetic torso and placed it over young bamboo shoots. After just three days, the bamboo had pushed halfway through the torso. Later, the experiment was moved outdoors, where the plants had access to natural sunlight, rain, and soil.
