The story follows three talented young women from Detroit named Effie, Deena, and Lorrell. A smooth car salesman named Curtis becomes their manager and transforms them into global superstars. However, Curtis favors a polished look over raw talent, replacing the powerhouse lead singer Effie with the more glamorous Deena. As the group transitions from soul music to disco, backstage jealousy, broken loyalty, and corporate greed tear the friends apart.
