Description

No mouth. No stomach. And it still eats straight through solid whale bone. Meet Osedax, the "zombie worm" living on whale skeletons at the bottom of the ocean. It grows root-like branches that drill into bone and release acid, while bacteria inside those roots break down the fat. The females are thousands of times bigger than the males, and each one carries dozens of microscopic males inside her body. Scientists didn't discover this creature until 2002. Follow BELOW 71 for more strange deep-sea science in under a minute. #zombieworm #deepsea #oceanfacts #Shorts
