Description

FEMA Is Telling Employees to Stockpile These 11 Items — They Haven't Said This Publicly FEMA’s current emergency-supply checklist openly recommends that Americans keep enough basic supplies to survive for several days. The list includes water, non-perishable food, backup phone power, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, flashlight and batteries, first-aid supplies, a whistle, dust masks, sanitation supplies, basic tools and local maps. FEMA FEMA reinforced that message during National Preparedness Month in September 2026, specifically telling households to have at least three days of food, water and medicine and to build their kits before an emergency happens. There is, however, a reason FEMA personnel and other emergency-management professionals may appear more prepared than the average household. FEMA planning guidance emphasizes being able to sustain yourself during disruptions, and emergency personnel may need additional equipment because they could be working for extended periods while everyone else is evacuating or sheltering. FEMA's CERT guidance, for example, includes equipment such as water, food, work gloves, N95 masks, multiple flashlights, spare batteries, goggles and signaling equipment.
