Description

If you have type O positive blood, DNA has a surprising story to tell about you. In 1952 in Bombay, doctors found patients whose bodies attacked every sample of type O blood, exposing a hidden blood group called the Bombay phenotype. That discovery led scientists to ask what else the letter on your blood chart is hiding, and the answer reaches back through human migration, ancient disease and deep evolutionary time. In this video we explain how type O blood works: the ABO gene on chromosome 9 and the single missing DNA letter behind most type O, the separate Rh system behind the plus sign, and why O positive is the blood hospitals reach for first. We look at what DNA says about where type O came from, why it is not simply an Asian invention, how the Beringian standstill helped make type O so common in many Native American populations, and how malaria, cholera, norovirus, ulcers and blood clotting show that every blood type is a trade-off. We also separate what is proven from what is still debated. If this video changed how you see your blood type, please LIKE the video, SUBSCRIBE to the channel and turn on the notification bell for more stories of human ancestry written in DNA, and SHARE it with someone who knows their blood type. Then tell us in the comments: what is your blood type, and did you know any of this? #bloodtype #opositive #dna #genetics #ancestry #bloodgroup #humanmigration #science
