Why World Maps Distort Reality — Mercator vs Equal Earth

How much of what we call reality is shaped by the images we grow up with? Greenland can look almost as large as Africa on a Mercator map. In reality, Africa is about fourteen times larger. In this video, we explore why flat world maps distort the planet, what Mercator was designed for, and how the Equal Earth projection changes our view of continental size. Every map makes a compromise between area, shape, distance, and direction. Understanding those choices helps us see the difference between the world and the models we use to represent it. The planet has not changed. Our picture of it has. 💬 WHAT DO YOU THINK? Did comparing these maps change how you see the world?
