On 4 October 2026, Houthi forces captured the Al-Safiya area and Turba Town, cutting the land connection between Taiz Province and Aden, the capital of Yemen. In response, the Saudi-backed Yemeni coalition announced “Operation Dawn of Yemen.” Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced the operation as Saudi-led forces launched a massive aerial campaign from the early hours of 5 October, with Saudi fighter jets carrying out intensive airstrikes and aerial bombardment against Houthi positions along the Red Sea coast and near the strategically vital Bab al-Mandab Strait. After around 7–8 hours of bombardment, the Yemeni coalition claimed that its forces had retaken Bab al-Mandab and Mocha Port from the Houthis, creating major shockwaves across the region. But the Houthis rejected the claim. Houthi fighters released videos showing their continued presence around Al Mayyun (Perim) Island and other strategic locations near the strait, directly challenging the Yemeni government's declaration of victory. The conflict then entered a new phase as the Houthis launched retaliation against Saudi Arabia, targeting major Saudi civilian international airports, military installations and strategic oil infrastructure, including Aramco facilities. Islamic NATO / Mecca Joint Pact Activated? Meanwhile, another major development unfolded in Riyadh. A high-level meeting involving Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir reportedly discussed the activation of the Mecca Joint Pact and support for Saudi Arabia in its confrontation with the Houthis. According to the reported understanding, support would be provided primarily in a defensive capacity, with Turkey reportedly offering air-defence assistance and Pakistan discussing the deployment of military personnel.
