Description

From 1946 to 1958, U.S. nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands transformed Bikini Atoll and surrounding communities into sites of displacement, radioactive fallout, and long-term environmental contamination. Archival footage and Marshallese testimony trace Operation Crossroads, Castle Bravo, forced relocation, contaminated food and water, and the medical monitoring that followed exposure. The film connects that Cold War legacy to the present: nuclear waste remains in the islands, some communities still live with restricted resources and damaged homelands, and rising seas threaten already vulnerable coasts. By linking environmental science, public policy, and lived experience, it asks what responsibility remains decades after the tests ended and what survival looks like when land, health, and culture are shaped by nuclear fallout.
