Description
On September 16th, 2004, a Category 3 hurricane slammed into the Gulf Coast near Gulf Shores, Alabama. But the deadliest thing Hurricane Ivan ever did wasn't happening on the beach. It was what the storm became as it moved inland – its outer rain bands spinning up one tornado after another across nine states, from Florida all the way to Pennsylvania, until it had spawned 117 of them in just three days. What followed became the largest tornado outbreak any hurricane in American history has ever produced – a record it still holds today.
Through aerial storm footage, viewers can observe the specific destruction caused by the Category 3 storm, including the path of a tornado and widespread flooding near the coastline. This documentation highlights the severe forces present during the disaster in Gulf Shores, providing historical context for the event's impact on the region.
