This model is made using coloured paper, cardboard, an Arduino UNO, two LDR sensors and a servo motor. LDR stands for Light Dependent Resistor, a component whose resistance changes according to the intensity of light. I have used two LDR sensors, one on the left side and another on the right side of the sunflower. These sensors detect the light intensity from different directions. The Arduino UNO acts as the brain of the system and processes the sensor readings. The Arduino compares the light intensity measured by the two LDR sensors. When the left sensor receives more light, the Arduino commands the servo motor to turn the sunflower towards the left. When the right sensor receives more light, the servo motor turns the sunflower towards the right. The servo motor controls the rotation of the flower head according to the programmed instructions. When both sensors receive nearly equal light, the sunflower stays approximately in its current position. This project demonstrates the working principle of an automatic light-tracking system. A similar tracking principle can be used in solar-panel systems to improve their alignment with sunlight. Through this project, I learned about Arduino programming, sensors, servo motors and automation.
