Why Some Male Cats Attack Kittens And Others Protect Them

Imagine this you’ve just brought home a tiny, mewing kitten. Your adult male cat, once calm and affectionate, suddenly hisses, arches his back, and swats—or worse. But then you hear a story from a friend whose tomcat gently grooms every new kitten he meets. What makes one cat a villain and the other a guardian? I remember the first time I saw my old tom, Jasper, curl around a foster kitten like a living shield. It wasn’t instinct—it was a choice, shaped by his past, his hormones, and a fragile truce with his own fears. But I also recall the day a stray male nearly killed a litter in our backyard, his eyes wild with an ancient fury I couldn’t explain. Is it all just biology? Or do cats have a moral compass we’ve never understood? In this video, we follow the secret lives of male cats and the kittens they either save or shatter. Watch until the end to meet one cat whose story will change how you see the whole species. #catcare #cathealth #cattips #petcare #indoorcats #catsafety #catownership
