Description

The Burmese python is one of the most talked-about invaders in North America. Native to Southeast Asia, it reached Florida through the pet trade, and today the USGS estimates that tens of thousands live across the Greater Everglades. Since it took hold, the python has been blamed for the collapse of raccoons, opossums, bobcats and rabbits across southern Florida. But the Everglades is a living system, and the animals that were here first haven't stopped adapting. What happens when a landscape meets a predator it has never seen? Who pays the price, and who learns to push back? Florida has spent years and millions of dollars trying to answer that question, and the picture is still changing. Have you seen a python, or a native animal going after one? Tell us your county in the comments and what you saw. #BurmesePython #Florida #Everglades #invasivespecies #wildlife #BigCypress #FloridaWildlife
